What it's all about:

SWING ME TO THE END OF LIFE, Echoes of Johnny and Jones was premiered on the Joodse Omroep (The Jewish Broadcaster) on Dutch National Channel 2, in August 2011.

This TV documentary takes its viewers on a journey together with the present-day makers of the musical play “Meneer Dinges" (Mr. What’s-His-Name).

The documentary, as well as the the musical play, focuses on the powers of music and song, to comfort, to heal and to give hope, even amid the cynicism of the world we live in today.

This project honour not only the lives of Johnny and Jones, but also the deeper meaning that their story has for us. Johnny and Jones strove to keep their dignity intact. They brought laughter and hope to their desolate fellow Jews. We want to amplify the echoes of their story, which still warns us that their fate could befall anyone who is abandoned and betrayed by the rest of the world, whether Jewish or not.

Our documentary does not attempt to preach the same unheeded warnings all over again. What message it does bring comes forth out of its celebration of the laughter and song as well as the courage and loyalty, which Johnny and Jones have given us as their inheritance.
